Brewmaster Single Spending a year abroad in Santiago, Chile Westerns, WW2 & Wine Tasting on Weekends Yes, the 10 year reunion. I am still undecided on the benefits of Advanced Education/Higher Learning. After bouncing around for 10 years in California between school & work, I decided to pursue a career in brewing. Some of you were my first guinea pigs, if you attended the golf outing back during the 10 year reunion in 1988. I spent the next 10 years in Texas honing my brewing skills while finally graduating with my BA in Spanish @ the University of Texas while serving my country in the ARMY/Texas National Guard. Presently I am living near Chicago as a Brewmaster for one of the largest Brewpub Chains in the country. Consider it a labor of love. On weekends I enjoy some of the finer things in life, such as classical music & wine tasting. Find something you enjoy in life and find find a way to get paid doing it. That way, you will never be bored or disappointed with your life. I am living proof of that philosophy. 2008-10-19 10:34:47
Missed the 30th reunion by 2 weeks. I visit my folks in Palo Alto twice a year.

Taught for one year, then changed careers to become a production editor for two books, The Annual Review of Biochemistry and The Annual Review of Energy (and the Environment), for 10 years (1984 - 1994). Meanwhile, in 1987 I married Steven Nelson, an astronomy major who was then working as an engineer. We had our first son in 1990, and two more followed in 1995 and 2000. I stayed home with children from 1994 to 1998, then began a new, part-time career as a Kindermusik educator, which I've been doing since then. We've enjoyed many family trips, including 9 years at Stanford Sierra camp, a trip by train to the East Coast, and a camping trip to 5 western national parks. Keep a balance with academics and other activities. Don't think your academics have to be perfect and give up doing anything else during high school or college. Those other activities can teach as much as you learn in the classroom and help you develop meaningful friendships--as I saw happen with our eldest son who just graduated from high school and made many friends through marching band and choir while still maintaining high academic standards. 2008-10-14 00:25:54

Those years when I was in my 20's if I wasn't in Alaska or overseas I was working a winter season at Kirkwood Cross Country Ski Area. In 1991 I married Lewis who is a marine biologist and works for the National Park Service at Glacier Bay. In 1991 I got a teaching job in the tiny town of Gustavus/Glacier Bay where I have been teaching elementary grades for the last 17 years. Gustavus has a population of 400 and there are about 50 kids in our K-12 school. I totally love the lifestyle of our isolated, small, rural, Alaskan town where we have made our home. My other passions include spending time with our 11 year-old son, playing the fiddle, quilting, backpacking, sea kayaking, and riding bikes. 2008-08-31 16:34:17
